117th Congress
August 24, 2021
This week we were all confronted with grim images and videos reminiscent of 1975 Saigon coming out of Afghanistan. All Americans are saddened by these events and are hoping for the safe return of our fellow citizens.

Lawmakers are back in their district for August, and that’s probably good news for the American taxpayer given that one of the House of Representatives’ last acts before leaving the Capitol was to rubber-stamp an almost 1,000-page, $600 billion, earmark-packed spending packagecalled a “mini-bus” – even though there isn’t anything small about it.

We are all familiar with the recurring scene in Charles Schulz’s iconic Peanuts cartoon in which Lucy yanks the football away just as Charlie Brown is about to kick it. It’s a good metaphor for the reality we’ve all been living the last 18 months, trying to make sense of the conflicting and often contradictory pandemic “guidance” formulated by Washington bureaucrats.

Following a busy week of votes here in the House, the Democratic Leadership along with their public health officials have once again moved to impose overreaching burdens on the American people. The House of Representatives is back in session this week following a two-week recess. Infrastructure is the big issue in Washington this week, and it's one that every American can relate to. Infrastructure is a crucial component of a healthy economy and should be something we can all rally behind. President Biden has repeatedly said that he wants infrastructure to pass with broad support.

Congress is preparing to reconvene for legislative activity after a two-week recess, and likely to begin work on yet another massive spending proposal that is being framed as an “infrastructure package” as early as next week. There’s just one catch: The plan has very little to do with roads or bridges. It would, however, plow $3.5 trillion in new spending into a host of Big Government giveaways: Everything from “free” college and earmarks for “racial justice” programs to a “100% carbon-free electricity standard” that’s bound to raise utility bills. It even includes a sweeping amnesty for 10 million illegal aliens.
