This week we saw more encouraging news as the U.S. economy roared back from state and local lockdowns posting an unprecedented 33 percent expansion, the largest quarterly growth figure posted since 1947 when the U.S. began keeping track. This growth is a testament to the work ethic and ingenuity of Americans, and to the sound economic foundation of regulatory reform and low taxes put in place by President Trump. This is the second time that President Trump has led the country through economic difficulty since taking office – despite Speaker Pelosi holding up more than $130 billion in additional Paycheck Protection Program funds that could further assist struggling small businesses.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Department of Interior today announced a new rule de-listing the Gray Wolf in the lower 48 states, allowing state and tribal governments to develop their own locally-tailored management rules to reflect the unique conditions and needs of their own jurisdictions.

Dear Friend,
This week we saw more encouraging economic news as new jobless claims dropped to their lowest level since the beginning of the pandemic and continuing unemployment claims dropped by more than 1 million. This is a testament to the resilience of the American economy which was the strongest in modern history – thanks to landmark tax and regulatory reforms – before the coronavirus pandemic that originated in China fanned out across the globe. It is great to see more Americans getting back to work.

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany (WI-07) issued the following statement today in response to the Senate Judiciary Committee's 12-0 vote to advance the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court - a vote the committee Democrats chose to ‘boycott' as a dilatory tactic.
"Today's decision by Judiciary Committee Democrats to ‘boycott' the vote on Judge Amy Coney Barrett's nomination was disappointing, unfortunate and an insult to Judge Barrett, who has shown remarkable grace and patience throughout these proceedings."

This week we saw more good news on the economic front, as American workers and small businesses continue to bounce back in the wake of government-mandated lockdown orders and restrictions. Retail sales were up significantly in September, nearly tripling analyst expectations, and rose 5.4% from a year ago. That’s a good indication that shops are getting back to business again and customers are getting back to shopping. We’ve still got a long way to go, but the gains we’ve seen over the last few months are a testament to the resilience of the American worker, and more evidence that the regulatory and tax reforms that fueled our historic economic boom – before the coronavirus surfaced in China – put America in a better position to bounce back.

Dear Friend,
Speaker Pelosi called Congress back to Washington for legislative business last week, but once again refused to bring legislation to the floor that would provide assistance to struggling small businesses by unlocking nearly $140 billion in unspent Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funds. Unfortunately, the Speaker refuses to allow a stand-alone vote on the Republican proposal to get this money into the hands of small businesses, despite the fact that it enjoys support from lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle.

Washington, DC —Today, Reps. Ron Kind (D-WI) and Tom Tiffany (R-WI) introduced bipartisan legislation to rename the post office at 430 S Knowles Avenue in New Richmond as the “Captain Robert C. Harmon and Private John R. Peirson Post Office”. Supported by the full Wisconsin Congressional Delegation, this bill honors Captain Robert C. Harmon and Private John R. Peirson, brothers from New Richmond who died fighting in World War II.

Dear Friend,
America spent much of this week reflecting on the life and legacy of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who sadly passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. Justice Ginsburg’s distinguished legal career spanned more than six decades, following the trail blazed by America’s first woman to serve on the high court, Sandra Day O’Connor. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.

Dear Friend,
Congress reconvened this week for legislative business. Unfortunately, the focus seemed to be more about activity and less about accomplishment. Senate Democrats blocked an effort to pass a limited coronavirus relief package that included additional Paycheck Protection Program funds and common-sense liability protection for hospitals, health-care workers, businesses, schools churches and non-profits as well as assistance for displaced workers. Instead of advancing this targeted and temporary effort to help American families, they chose to filibuster it.
