​We are all familiar with the recurring scene in Charles Schulz’s iconic Peanuts cartoon in which Lucy yanks the football away just as Charlie Brown is about to kick it. It’s a good metaphor for the reality we’ve all been living the last 18 months, trying to make sense of the conflicting and often contradictory pandemic “guidance” formulated by Washington bureaucrats.

Following a busy week of votes here in the House, the Democratic Leadership along with their public health officials have once again moved to impose overreaching burdens on the American people. On Tuesday, the CDC announced yet another round of “guidance” recommending that people who have already been vaccinated against COVID-19 wear masks.

The House of Representatives is back in session this week following a two-week recess. Infrastructure is the big issue in Washington this week, and it's one that every American can relate to. Infrastructure is a crucial component of a healthy economy and should be something we can all rally behind. President Biden has repeatedly said that he wants infrastructure to pass with broad support.

Congress is preparing to reconvene for legislative activity after a two-week recess, and likely to begin work on yet another massive spending proposal that is being framed as an “infrastructure package” as early as next week. There’s just one catch: The plan has very little to do with roads or bridges. It would, however, plow $3.5 trillion in new spending into a host of Big Government giveaways: Everything from “free” college and earmarks for “racial justice” programs to a “100% carbon-free electricity standard” that’s bound to raise utility bills. It even includes a sweeping amnesty for 10 million illegal aliens.

The House of Representatives is not in session this week and most Members are back in their home states for the Independence Day district work period. Speaking of which, we hope that you had a festive and patriotic 4th of July and got together with friends and family to enjoy the fireworks. Independence Day is a time for all of us to reflect on the visionary contributions of our Founding Fathers and the many generations of Americans from different backgrounds who have made our great Nation what it is today.

The American people notched a major victory this week when a partisan election bill that would have poured public money into the campaign accounts of well-heeled politicians and effectively invalidated state voter ID laws was blocked in the U.S. Senate – at least for now. Had this bill passed, it may also have resulted in illegal aliens being automatically registered to vote.

We shared some troubling data with you recently about the sheer size and scope of fraud in government pandemic spending. Readers may recall some of the most ridiculous examples – con-artists buying Bentleys, Lamborghinis, Maseratis and swimming pools with your money, prison inmates cashing in from behind bars and even one brazen scammer who was so proud of defrauding American taxpayers that he made a rap video about it.
