As the second week of Donald Trump's presidency begins, a western Wisconsin congressman is introducing legislation that would ban Diversity, Equity and Inclusion known as DEI, in the federal government.
It's called the 'FAIR Act' and it was introduced by 7th Congressional Representative Tom Tiffany. 18 News spoke with Tiffany Monday while he held a listening session in Ladysmith.
The bill would prevent agencies, contractors, states and universities from receiving federal funding if they intentionally discriminate within their workplace. Those discriminations can be hiring an individual based on race rather than merit and achievements.
Tiffany said the goal of the FAIR Act is create even playing field.
"We should be a colorblind society and to stop discrimination, the first people that should stop the discriminating is the federal government," he said.
The bill continues President Trump's executive orders ending DEI programs within the federal government. Tiffany has other eight other co-sponsors on the FAIR Act.
This is the second time the bill has been introduced in Congress. You can learn more about the FAIR Act here.
